Web Exclusive: Geobrugg and Rallycross

Geobrugg created a number of unique solutions to ensure the successful and safe premiere of the first rallycross event in Latvia

Submitted by: Geobrugg

The Northern European Zone (NEZ) Rallycross championship took to the newly inaugurated Rallycross Circuit, Bikernieku Trase, Riga for the very first time last weekend (23-24 July 2016). The largest racetrack of its kind in the Baltic region, the event drew nearly 4,000 spectators thanks to breathtaking scenes. Thanks to Geobrugg, the spectators view of the action was from a safe perspective.

Although there were several high speed crashes during the race, which thrilled the audience, the NEZ SuperCars class was consistently safe: Geobrugg supplied two different types of motorsport barriers to construction company Binders for installation at the Bikernieku Trase facility. Together with the client and designer, Geobrugg was able to create unique designs such as the double-sided concrete barrier which allows racing activities on both sides of the partition.

Geobrugg, as a manufacturer of high-tensile steel meshes, worked closely with Nordbeton, as supplier of the concrete elements, to introduce further new elements to the Bikernieku Trase site. The stand alone marshal post and the mobile pit wall are portable and flexible to allow the circuit operator to move the marshal posts to different locations and events. The mobile pit wall can also be extended to cater for the future needs of the circuit.

The circuit is set to host the 10th round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship on October 1 and 2. For that event, Geobrugg will once again supply the new race track with all the equipment it requires to ensure a safe event.
