A new partnership agreement for at least three seasons (2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021) has been signed between Michelin, the automobile Club de l’Ouest and Le Mans 24 Hours, and the FIA’s WEC extending the current arrangement between the three entities.
“The partnership with Michelin is particularly valuable, since it is based on a shared vision of motorsport,” explained Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. “Tires are an essential parameter of competition, strategy and security for our competitors. With a variety of categories, such as the prototypes or GTE, the wealth of information provided by the competition is an asset for the French manufacturer. For the ACO, it is a true technical partner and we look forward to meet their professional requirements.”
The French tire manufacturer has provided tires to the flagship Le Mans 24 hours since the first race in 1923, when a Chenard & Walcker car was equipped with Michelin tires and removable rims. Since then, Michelin’s success at de la Sarthe have multiplied, with the French tire manufacturer’s victory this year marking its 20th consecutive victory.
