An autonomous open-wheel race car was unveiled at the 2018 Formula Student event at Silverstone in the UK. Designed and built by DJ Engineering Services with a drivetrain from Hypermotive, the project allowed teams to hone their skills in autonomous vehicle development and software integration.
The chassis and bodywork were developed and assembled by DJ Engineering. Hypermotive specified the rest of the hardware, including the powertrain and the technology that allows the vehicle to drive autonomously.
It uses a Velodyne VLP-16 lidar unit, two Sekonix AR0231 cameras and a PCAN GPS/IMU. Making it go are two 55.7Nm Saietta 119R-68 drive motors, which are fed by CALB CA100AHA lithium-iron phosphate batteries.
