Electric GT, organiser and promoter of the all-electric EGT series, has officially launched a parallel eSports Championship, which will take place at every race event during the inaugural season.
Organiser say that the eSeries has been designed to help develop young racing talent through simulation to circuit, and will offer virtual racers the opportunity to compete for real-life track test opportunities and graduation through the Electric GT Draft pick to the main series.
Electric GT eSports Championship qualifying will open in the coming weeks and will see fans compete for the opportunity to earn one of ten official places in the full-time eSports season, racing at each event in the inaugural EGT season.
The winner of each official eSports race during the season will earn a track test in the the championship’s race-prepared Tesla Model S EGT P100D. Qualification for the Electric GT eSports Championship will take place in stages over the coming months, ahead of the inaugural race in 2018.
The first round of qualifying for the EGT eSports Championship will be announced on the Electric GT website and social media. Fans will be invited to set a fast lap from their own home on Assetto Corsa, a realistic simulator racing platform. The top 100 competitors will then compete in an online qualifying race.
The top 40 drivers will be invited to the Electric GT Headquarters at Circuit Pau-Arnos to compete for one of 20 spots in the final qualification round where the final 10 full-time e-racers will be chosen.
“We have put a lot of work into making the series as realistic as possible,” explained Mark Gemmell, CEO Electric GT Ltd. “With g-force replicating simulator setup and the added elements of virtual reality, this series is going to be physically demanding for every competitor. We’ll be offering a real-life track test to the winner of each round of the eSports Championship. With an increasingly blurred line between racing skill on the track and in the simulator, we want to reward and develop the racing talent of our eSports racers.
“We will also be encouraging the teams competing in the Electric Production Car Series to take these competitors under their wing. Our first team to join the championship, SPV Racing, has already shown great interest in supporting a number of racers in our virtual championship in addition to their track racing programme.”
