Weighing less than 1,000kg and with a stated maximum downforce of 1,200kg, McLaren’s Solus GT, its latest track-only hypercar, is certainly extreme. It will also be equipped with a variant of Engine Development’s venerable Judd V10, in 5.2-liter form.
“The McLaren Solus GT is the realization of a radical McLaren concept vehicle originally created for the world of virtual racing. Engineered free of any restrictions from road or race regulations, but with the full spectrum of McLaren’s expertise to bring it to reality, it epitomizes our pioneering spirit,” said Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive.
In addition to having power and torque outputs in excess respectively of 840PS and 650Nm, the Judd engine was also chosen for its structural qualities and will mark the first time a McLaren production car uses the engine as a fully stressed member.
According to McLaren, all 25 Solus that are to be built have already been sold.
