The second-generation version of the Audi RS 3 LMS will be available to customers later this year, the auto maker has announced.
“This market launch has been long awaited by many customers,” commented Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing. “Our customers have clinched more than 300 race victories and 55 championship titles with the first-generation Audi RS 3 LMS to date. In the process, we have received valuable experience and wishes as feedback. Our new car is the sum of this feedback and the creativity of our engineers.”
Starting at US$162,635 (€137,500 plus VAT), the Audi touring car is supplied ready to race. Safety features include Audi’s own Protection Seat with a six-point harness, a hatch in the roof for driver access in the event of an accident, or for driver exit, and a fully adjustable pedal box. Audi states that the almost standard engine technology will enable economical operation and a long service life.
Alongside the standard package, the Audi is offering customer racing teams that compete in endurance events extra components for an added cost. These include preassembled wiring for auxiliary headlights, a race-spec anti-lock braking system and an external refueling device. Furthermore, windows in the front and rear can be spec’d in polycarbonate and triangular safety nets to the left and right of the seats can also be selected.
Deliveries of the vehicle are expected start in Q4 2021.
