BMW M Motorsport is to offer private customer teams a new entry point into racing with the BMW M2 Racing, starting in the 2026 season. Development and testing of the BMW M2 Racing is entering a critical phase this year. The vehicle was officially presented to the public during the DTM season opener at Oschersleben in Germany on April 26.
“With the introduction of the BMW M2 Racing, we are continuing a proud tradition,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M. “Like its predecessors – the BMW M235i Racing, BMW M240i Racing and BMW M2 CS Racing – the new BMW M2 Racing will redefine the entry-level segment. The car is affordable while offering racing teams and drivers uncompromising performance, durability and pure driving pleasure. At BMW M Motorsport, supporting customer racing with cars that are easy to maintain, cost-efficient and thrilling to drive is a top priority.”
The new M2 Racing delivers 230kW/313hp and reaches a top speed of over 270km/h. It is based on the chassis of the current M2 generation, enhanced with numerous racing components.
BMW M works drivers will be behind the wheel during intensive test sessions, some under race conditions, to help optimize performance, drivability and mileage, and reduce tire wear. Among them is Jens Klingmann, who commented, “Buyers of a BMW M2 Racing can look forward to a fantastic entry-level car that is very easy to operate, has extremely low operating costs due to its close relation to the production model, and yet is a fully fledged race car with high performance. On the racetrack, the BMW M2 Racing delivers the same driving pleasure that is deeply rooted in the DNA of all BMW M and BMW M Motorsport vehicles. Our focus is to ensure that the BMW M2 Racing, thanks to its characteristics, is the perfect car for everyone – from a novice on a track day to an ambitious racer. And I am very pleased with the result.”
Starting in 2026, private BMW M Motorsport teams will be competing with the BMW M2 Racing around the globe. The vehicle will run in various national and international sprint series as well as endurance events like the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. BMW M Motorsport experts will provide professional support to BMW M2 Racing customers.
