Boreham Motorworks has revealed the reimagined Ford Escort Mk1 RS. Limited to 150 cars worldwide with continuation chassis numbers, the restomod features a 10,000rpm, 2.1-liter motorsport-derived engine with manual gearbox.
Boreham is an official brand license partner of the Ford Motor Company and is dedicated to preserving the legacy of some of Ford’s most iconic vehicles. Unlike traditional restomods, a ‘Continumod’, as Boreham calls it, requires no donor vehicle. It is forged from an official brand agreement with Ford Motor Company and built from scratch using modern materials and advanced manufacturing techniques.
There are two engine options to choose from. First is the iconic twin cam, which has been increased to 1.8-liters with 185hp and a 4-speed manual “Ford bullet” synchromesh straight cut transmission. The second engine is an all-new motorsport-derived, 10,000rpm 2.1-liter four-cylinder cast and billet engine, weighing in at under 85kg and featuring double overhead camshaft and chain cam drive for an output of 300hp.
This engine also benefits from forged steel conrods, billet crankshaft, a bespoke titanium exhaust system that tuned for performance, and a 5-speed dogleg gearbox for perfect weight and throw complemented with bespoke gear ratios.
In terms of dynamics, the new Ford Escort Mk1 RS features an optimized weight distribution of 55:45 with MacPherson front struts as well as suspension geometry that has been optimized for enhanced performance. Other highlights include a new lightweight, aluminum and titanium fully floating rear axle, an advanced limited-slip ATB differential and coil-over dampers to enhance stability. Boreham says the car does not feature any driving aids such as power steering, ABS, traction control or brake servo.
The tires are 205/50 x 15 at the front with 225/50 x 15 at the rear, paying homage to the styling of the original Mk1 Escort. Stopping power is provided by 260mm x 25mm vented discs with four-piston calipers at the front and 264mm x 11mm solid discs with two-piston calipers at the rear.
Boreham developed the car with an 800kg weight target. To achieve this, the hood, trunk lid and all interior substrates are made from carbon fiber, with lightweight materials used within the rear-axel and the optional forged magnesium wheels.
The cockpit of the new Ford Escort Mk1 RS boasts a modern, driver-focused interior that balances lightweighting and driver comfort. Boreham offers some modern kit like heated screens, air conditioning with four vents for better climate control, and a dedicated screen demist function.
Prices start at £295,000 (US$374,588). With this, you also get a two-year, 20,000-mile warranty. Boreham says the public and press will get their first chance to see the car in the summer of 2025, ahead of production starting in Q3 the same year.
