A one-off Bugatti Mistral has set the world record for the fastest open-top car at 453.91km/h. Driven by Andy Wallace, Bugatti’s ‘Pilote Officiel’, the record was broken at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany.
The record run took place on November 9 with Bugatti Rimac CEO Mate Rimac, senior management team, project crew and vehicle technicians in attendance. SGS-TÜV Saar officially confirmed the run, which beats the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder’s 427.44km/h.
Wallace said, “And when it came to the moment itself, the experience was overwhelmingly thrilling; feeling the elemental forces from the open-top cockpit, the sound of the immense W16 engine emanating from the air scoops next to my ear – it made the achievement incredibly emotional.”
For the first time in Bugatti’s history, the customer of the vehicle was present during the record-breaking event, and was given the opportunity to join Andy on another high-speed run – almost reaching the same speed and likely setting an unofficial record for the fastest passenger ride.
The one-off Mistral is worth €14m (US$14.8m) and owned by The Singh Collection – a private collection by an individual originally from Punjab, India. The collection also includes all other world-record cars such as the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport World Record Edition; the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Edition; and the Chiron Super Sport 300+. The unique Mistral World Record Car features accents on the lower body, wheels and cabin in vibrant ‘Jet Orange’ – paying homage to Veyron world record cars.
Bugatti Rimac CEO Rimac said, “We are immensely proud of the whole team that made this incredible achievement possible – an achievement defined by passion and the pursuit of perfection. That is what defines Bugatti – and what makes its achievements truly incomparable.”
