DKR Engineering is to enter a 2025-specification Ginetta G61-LT-P3 Evo as an official LMP3 customer team, hoping to bring Ginetta to a winning position in two of the world’s leading LMP3 championships – European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and Michelin Le Mans Cup (MLMC).
DKR Engineering is a successful prototype team, having won the MLMC LMP3 title on four occasions and the ELMS crown in 2021. Its LMP2 program has also yielded three consecutive podium finishes in the Le Mans 24 Hours and an Asian Le Mans Series title.
Ginetta is not a new name in LMP3. Its first-generation Evo was dominant in the 2015 European Le Mans Series, taking all five class wins and the drivers’ title with Team LNT’s Sir Chris Hoy and Charlie Robertson.
The original car was replaced by the second-generation Evo in 2020, which has been raced to many notable results by customer teams. Ginetta has completed an extensive testing and race development schedule for the 2025 LMP3 model, with support from partner team CMR and former FIA World Endurance Championship and Formula E race-winner Nico Prost. This has helped Ginetta with the engineering direction of the new car, which features a brand-new Toyota-based twin-turbo V6 engine from Oreca. The race car also has an upgraded aero and cooling package, revised rear geometry and reduced weight.
The European testing program has been a success, clocking over 4,000km, including positive runs at Magny-Cours and Paul Ricard with DKR. The team says it is impressed with the superb reliability and performance of the new car, and that it comfortably matches the Duqueine and Ligier competitors.
Mike Simpson, Ginetta motorsport director, said, “Ginetta is thrilled to be working with DKR Engineering to bring the brand-new Ginetta G61-LT-P3 Evo LMP3 into the European Le Mans Series and Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2025.”
DKR Engineering founder Kendy Janclaes said, “After eight years with Norma/Duqueine and having helped them win five European titles, we have decided to change manufacturers for the third-generation spec cars. We are delighted with the partnership with Ginetta and the ambitions they have shown us during the tests we have done with them.”
