Lancia has announced a return to rallying, albeit with a Rally 4 machine rather than a WRC car.
Details are currently sparse, but Lancia says that the Ypsilon Rally 4 HF will be powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, four-valve-per-cylinder engine delivering 212hp.
The vehicle is equipped with front-wheel drive with a 5-speed transmission and mechanical limited-slip differential, with Lancia targeting the popular Rally 4 class for both young driver and national championships.
The new Ypsilon road car will initially arrive as an EV. However, as it is based on the Stellantis modular and multi-energy CMP/eCMP platform, there will undoubtedly be ICE variants available.
Stellantis already has a Rally 4 car in its line-up, the 208, also built on the CMP, thus it would be logical for there to be knowledge sharing between the arms of group, particularly as Lancia currently has little in-house racing expertise.
