Maserati has presented the Project24, planned to be a limited series (with production fixed at 62 units) of track-only sportscars. Based on the MC20 and designed by Centro Stile Maserati, the cars will feature a host of revisions, including an upgraded version of the V6 Nettuno engine, equipped with new turbochargers and other modifications, to net a total power output of 740bhp. Power will be delivered via a 6-speed sequential transmission, coupled to a mechanical LSD. The more potent powertrain will be paired with uprated suspension, carbon ceramic brakes and a variety of FIA-approved safety equipment. Other additions will include a rear-view camera display, optional datalogging capabilities, and adjustable ABS and traction control systems.
Maserati says it wanted to create a track car free of the constraints usually seen in a racing car. It is targeting a total weight of under 1,250kg, to deliver a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 1.69kg/hp.
