Mercedes Benz revealed its Silver Arrow 01, the race car it is entering into Formula E next season, at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland this week.
The Silver Arrow was revealed in teaser livery for the Show. The definitive design will be presented at a later stage ahead of the season opener.
Gorden Wagener, chief design officer at Daimler said, “The Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 01 teaser car gives a foretaste of the first all-electric Silver Arrow. Blue accents and the subtle contrast between matt and gloss in conjunction with the star pattern at the rear of the vehicle represent progressive luxury in electric motorsport.”
EQ is the new brand Mercedes-Benz is applying across its entire electric vehicle range and stands for “electric intelligence” according to the company.
The 2019/20 season will be the first in which Mercedes competes in both Formula 1 and Formula E.
For Formula E it joins other OEMs Audi, BMW, Citroën, Mahindra, Nissan, and Jaguar on the grid. The non-OEM teams competing next season are Chinese start-up NIO French EV maker Venturi.
Team Principal and CEO of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Toto Wolff, said, “Formula E is going to be a completely new playing field for us. But we are looking forward to the challenge of demonstrating the performance of our intelligent battery-electric drives in motorsport and of giving a positive boost to the EQ brand”
The car is designed and will be built to Formula E’s specification, which uses bodywork from Dallara, 52kWh batteries provided by McLaren Applied Technologies and a final build done by Spark Technologies. Formula E teams develop their own motors, inverters gearboxes and front brake ducts.
This means the Silver Arrow has a max power output of 250kW (340 hp) a top speed of 280km/h (174mph) and will accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds.
