Renault’s documentary Anatomy of a Comeback, streaming now on Prime Video, has revealed a new production vehicle – the future Renault 5 Turbo 3E production model. The French auto maker is bringing back the iconic Renault 5 Turbo, this time as an all-electric hot hatch.
It is a modern take on the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 that features “retro-futuristic design”, with a modern charging socket in one of the rear air intakes. It features a super light and stiff carbon superstructure, with Renault describing it as a “pocket rocket” worthy of the brand’s name and heritage.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be a rear-wheel drive hatchback with in-wheel electric motors for a total output of more than 500bhp. The French auto maker also promises that the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be able to sprint from 0km/h to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, with a performance worthy of a supercar or even a hypercar.
Further technical details and launch timelines are still under wraps, but Renault has a track record of being on point with the modern reincarnation of iconic names, as evidenced by its A110 Pikes Peak race car.
