The Mégane RS Trophy-R has set a new front-wheel-drive lap record at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, recording a time of 2 minutes 48.338 seconds, more than 5 seconds quicker than the previous record.
Developed by the team at Renault Sport, the Mégane RS Trophy-R owes its performance to a focus on weight reduction, aerodynamics and suspension.
The Trophy-R is around 130kg (286 lb) lighter than standard Mégane RS Trophy thanks to a radical weight-saving program, it also features a redesigned undertray and more aggressive rear splitter that generates greater downforce.
In addition, the overhauled suspension benefits from more negative camber at the front, a bespoke H pattern rear axle, and Ohlins two-way adjustable dampers.
Power is provided by the 295bhp turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder that drives the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox and Torsen limited-slip differential.
