Aston Martin made its e-sports debut on May 2 when it entered season two of The Race All-Star Series. The first season was a success and attracted several racing stars, and the second season has created a Pro Cup for motorsport teams to make their debut in the virtual world.
The team entered three works drivers: FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) GTE points-leader Nicki Thiim, reigning British GT Series champion Jonny Adam, and multiple WEC GTE Am race-winner Charlie Eastwood.
Three-times Le Mans 24 Hour-winner Darren Turner is Aston Martin Racing’s team captain.
Turner entered the Legends Trophy for 1970s Formula 1-style cars alongside F1 champions Jenson Button and Emerson Fittipaldi; Indianapolis 500 winners Dario Franchitti and Juan Pablo Montoya; and World Rally Champion Petter Solberg.
All drivers competed in high-powered single-seaters on the rFactor 2 PC platform featuring a special livery displaying several of Aston Martin Racing’s FIA WEC partners.
David King, president of Aston Martin Racing, said, “E-sports is emerging as an important new strand of the sport and a great place to nurture and hone racing skills. The Race All-Star Cup has proved highly entertaining and attracted an extremely high caliber of driver and is the perfect place for us to take our first steps into the e-sports universe.”
