The FIA World Rally Championship has announced that Colwyn Bay, on the coast of northern Wales, will host the Wales Rally between October 3rd and 6th this year.
Although the full route has yet to be released, it has been revealed that the event will include a new speed test on the town’s Promenade. The Colwyn Bay speed test is scheduled for early evening on October 5.
As part the proposal, a 3km (1.86 mile) course has been planned for the Promenade, featuring chicanes, donuts and a hairpin, with competitors racing individually against-the-clock.
Cheryl Williams, manager at Colwyn BID (Business improvement district), said: “We are delighted to be in partnership with the WRC and for the Bay of Colwyn to play its part in supporting one of the highlights of the North Wales calendar. The speed test will be an exciting addition to what’s already a very popular rally, and the promenade itself is the perfect setting.”
