Cooper Tire Europe has announced that it is to continue exclusively supplying the FIA World Rallycross and FIA European Rallycross championships for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons.
This year, Cooper will supply tires to the FIA World Rallycross Championship, now renamed the FX1 premier class, alongside the new all-electric motorsport discipline known as the RX2e class. Cooper will also equip the RX1 and RX3 fields in the FIA European Rallycross Championship.
“Extending our relationship with the FIA World Rallycross and FIA European Rallycross championships is a fantastic way for Cooper Tire Europe and our motorsport department to enter 2021,” commented James Weekley, general manager of motorsport at Cooper Tire Europe. “We cannot wait to go racing again, and look forward to playing a key role in the development of the sport’s new electric era.”
Cooper’s ACB11, produced in sizes 225/640R17 and 205/620R17, will be available to the championships, along with the tire manufacturer’s RX Moulded Wet in a 210/635R17. Cooper states that as tires are subjected to greater forces within the FIA World Rallycross Championship as it transitions to electric propulsion, the tire range will continue to evolve.
Gyarfas Olah, president of the Off-Road Commission at the FIA, added, “The FIA is delighted to continue our very successful collaboration with Cooper Tire Europe for three further years. Their products offer outstanding performance and durability. Cooper will be a great partner to accompany us in the electric switch of the category.”
