The FIA has announced that Xavier Mestelan Pinon has been appointed as technical director within the Sport division of the organization and will take up his position at the Federation’s Geneva offices in mid-April.
He succeeds Gilles Simon who has chosen to retire from the role of technical director but will remain within the FIA as a consultant. Pinon’s motorsport experience spans 26 years. He joins the FIA from Stellantis, where he is currently director for the motorsport division of DS Automobiles.
Peter Bayer, FIA secretary general for motorsport, commented, “Xavier joins the FIA at a pivotal time in technological innovation in motorsport. He will play a key role in the implementation of the future technical vision across a range of FIA championships, particularly in the area of advanced powertrain development.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the outstanding contribution of Gilles Simon in establishing a center of excellence in the FIA Technical Department. Gilles will remain an integral member of the FIA’s technical operations in a consultancy capacity. I wish him well in his future endeavors.”
