IMG, the promoters of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, has partnered with racing game developer Motorsport Games and Codemasters to launch the RX Esports Invitational. The online series allows racers to test their skills against professional WRX drivers in the first RX e-sports series.
The one-off championship will be held on the dates of selected rounds of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship that have been postponed due to health concerns and government regulations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Paul Bellamy, senior VP of motorsports events at IMG, said: “We hope that by offering fans around the world the chance to engage with World RX via an alternative Esports series, we are providing a small level of enjoyment in these difficult times.”
The first event to be held will be the Barcelona RX Esports Invitational on April 19, using DiRT Rally 2.0 on PC. Official World RX drivers will compete against fans who earned a place on the grid via the Qualifying event on March 28.
The World RX line-up, along with a few guest entries from other motorsport categories, will be revealed in the coming days.
