McLaren has extended its partnership as the official safety car partner for a fifth season in a row.
Capable of 0-99km/h in 2.9 seconds, and with a top speed of 341km/h (212mph), the 720S will join a record number of GT3 and GT4 race cars on track to manage and coordinate all aspects of the 2020 season. The supercar, finished in papaya orange with a blue livery, has been updated this year to match the company’s latest Formula 1 car, the MCL35, which was unveiled at its headquarters in February.
Four of the 720S’s GT3 counterparts will compete in this year’s GT Championship under McLaren Customer Racing teams Balfe Motorsport, Optimum Motorsport and 2 Seas Motorsport, along with eight other 570S GT4 McLaren entries.
Director of motorsport at McLaren, Ian Morgan, said, “We have more McLaren Customer Racing teams on the grid than ever before, so I am pleased to confirm that the grid will be led by the 720S safety car once again. The relationship with the championship continues to strengthen year on year, and it is a great showcase for our customers to see the GT3 and GT4 variants of McLaren road cars competing on track.”
