McLaren Automotive has announced that the McLaren Trophy, America championship will debut in spring 2025 and will feature 10 rounds at five renowned venues, including Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Circuit of the Americas. Running in conjunction with the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, the series aims to offer competitive racing for both amateur GT drivers and aspiring professionals.
The race calendar for the inaugural season begins in late March next year at Sonoma Raceway in Northern California. The series will then move to Circuit of the Americas, which has hosted the US Grand Prix for more than a decade. The midpoint of the championship will take place at Virginia International Raceway in July, followed by a round at the challenging Road America circuit in August. The season will conclude in October at the Indianapolis road circuit.
The championship will feature the bespoke McLaren Artura Trophy race car, prepared by independent race teams, with current 570S Trophy cars also eligible.
The bespoke McLaren Artura Trophy race cars will showcase advanced engineering, similar to the McLaren Artura road car, including the McLaren carbon lightweight architecture (MCLA) which provides a rigid, lightweight chassis. These race cars are powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine delivering 585ps, with a low engine placement enhancing cornering capabilities. An aerodynamic package featuring a high downforce rear wing aims to optimize performance for the Artura Trophy to achieve lap times comparable to GT3 class cars.
Mick McDonagh, director of MSO and motorsport at McLaren Automotive, said, “Having established McLaren Trophy, Europe as a competitive and social environment for Bronze and Silver drivers, we are delighted to confirm our 2025 calendar as we introduce the new McLaren Trophy, America championship. We will be visiting many of the continent’s best circuits, and I’m thrilled that we have rounds at Indianapolis and the Circuit of the Americas in our inaugural season.”
All McLaren Trophy races will be live-streamed on the McLaren Automotive YouTube channel.
