On their journey toward a more sustainable future, WRC (World Rally Championship) Promoter and Rallycross Promoter have achieved the highest level of environmental accreditation under the FIA’s (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) Environmental Accreditation Program. This program is designed to help motorsport and mobility stakeholders worldwide measure and enhance their environmental performance.
The acknowledgment of this achievement came following an on-site audit at the promoters’ Munich offices, conducted by an independent FIA-appointed auditor with experience in International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). The audit focused on evaluating the solidity and implementation of the promoters’ environmental management system, addressing key environmental management principles and impact areas.
Results of the audit highlighted various best practices in environmental management– demonstrated through the companies’ development of Beyond Rally, an umbrella platform for various sustainability initiatives and biodiversity. This initiative includes tools designed to safeguard internationally protected areas within the framework of WRC and ERC (European Rallycross Championship) sporting activities.
This achievement follows the WRC becoming the first FIA World Championship to mandate three-star environmental accreditation for event organizers, back in 2016.
Currently, WRC and Rallycross Promoters are working with their stakeholders to create more eco-friendly events– as part of this they have introduced a Carbon Footprint Tool. This tool is aimed at assisting rally and race organizers in measuring the carbon impact of their events, thereby adopting more sustainable practices in motorsport activities.
