The Bloodhound LSR team has successfully reached a milestone in testing, as the car hit 537km/h on the Hakskeenpan desert racetrack. Following the completion of two run profiles, the car hit its highest speed ever on run profile three.
During the run, the car’s EJ200 jet engine ran with full reheat for 12 seconds, demonstrating that is in full working order. Run profile 3 marked the beginning of the high-speed test program, with all systems necessary for running with reheat now tested and checked.
Over the next four weeks the car’s speed will be built up in 80km/h increments with a target speed above 800km/h for this test program.
“There was strong cross wind gusting at over 24km/h and we’ve established that this is pretty much the limit for running in the car,” noted Bloodhound driver Andy Green. “We’re happy because this was a successful test, now we’re ready to progress on to higher speeds.”
