Lamborghini Squadra Corse has announced Maurizio Leschiutta as its new head of motorsport. Leschiutta will report to chief technical officer Rouven Mohr, who served as the interim head of motorsport.
Leschiutta brings 30 years of experience in motorsport, most notably as part of BMW’s LMDh project in the FIA WEC and the IMSA. Leschiutta will oversee the Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s racing programs from 2025 starting with the 24 Hours at Daytona (January 25 & 26), where Lamborghini will enter its SC63 for the first time. At the wheel will be factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara.
Furthermore, Lamborghini will return to GTD Pro with its Huracán GT3 EVO2, together with Pfaff Motorsports and Lamborghini factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli, Jordan Pepper and Marco Mapelli.
Leschiutta’s role will include the development of the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh prototype during its second IMSA GTP campaign and the GT3 customer racing portfolio. The Huracán GT3 EVO2 will race in the most important GT championships worldwide, including the DTM, GT World Challenge Europe, British GT and Italian GT. The new Temerario GT3 is set to conduct its first outdoor testing program in the early part of the year, before being officially unveiled to the public.
Leschiutta will also be responsible for the three continental Lamborghini Super Trofeo one-make championships from 2025 (Europe, North America and Asia), all of which enjoyed record-breaking grid numbers during the 2024 season.
Prior to this, he spent 11 years in Formula 1, specializing in engine development before moving to GT racing. In recent years, he has been an indispensable figure in the development of BMW’s LMDh program, where he was the project leader since 2021.
Leschiutta said, “It is with great pleasure that I am able to join Lamborghini Squadra Corse. For me, it is an important milestone in becoming a part of such an established and respected name and organization. I hope I can contribute to writing a small paragraph in one of the many pages of its history books, and I am confident that, together, we shall rise to the challenges in the years to come.”
Mohr added, “We are delighted to welcome Maurizio Leschiutta to the Lamborghini family heading into the new season. Maurizio has an incredible wealth of expertise and knowledge in motorsport, and, with his vision, we hope to achieve even more success across the Lamborghini Squadra Corse portfolio.”
