Formula E racing team Mahindra Racing has announced the appointment of former Mercedes AMG HPE engineer Josef Holden as its performance director, who will be responsible for running the team’s trackside operations.
Prior to joining Mahindra, Holden was leader of the Strategy and Power Unit Tools Group at Mercedes AMG High Performance for a number of years, and his career has included trackside work in Formula Renault 3.5 and time with the Marussia F1 team.
Though having spent his career dealing with IC engine competition cars, Holden felt that Formula E presented a new range of challenges: “Technology is forever marching forward and I strongly believe that Formula E leads the charge for the future of pioneering, high-performance motorsport. I look forward to working with the team and building upon the legacy that Mahindra Racing has already forged within Formula E.”
Concurrent to Holden’s arrival, Toni Cuquerella (of Mahindra partner QEV Technologies) will move from his role as chief engineer to senior consultant and the team says he will initially work closely with Holden before moving onto special projects.
Mahindra team principal Dilbagh Gill remarked on the appointment, “We are delighted to have Josef joining the team as performance director. His experience will prove invaluable as we look forward to building on the many positives of last season and taking the team back to where it belongs; to the front of the grid.”
