World Touring Car 2012 champion Rob Huff and Hong Kong-based Teamwork Motorsport are making a two-car entry into the Touring Cars UK program in 2019.
The Teamwork Huff Motorsport team will enter two Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR cars for the first round of the championship at Snetterton on April 20-21. Reigning TCR China champion and Macau Touring Car Cup race winner Sunny Wong will drive the first car, while negotiations are still ongoing with a number of possible drivers, including several British Touring Car Championship race winners, for the second Golf.
Rob Huff will act as driver mentor and coach for the team when his driving duties in this year’s FIA World Touring Car Cup allow. Experienced Touring Car and GT team Ciceley Motorsport will provide all the trackside support at each of the seven events and will prepare the cars before and after each race weekend at the team’s base in Lancashire, UK.
Rob Huff said, “I’ve been working with Teamwork for years and now, with Teamwork Huff Motorsport, it’s great to be trying my hand at something else.
“It’ll be a great experience, and also to have my name on a race team, working with some top drivers as we try our best to do well in the TCR UK championship; it will be an exciting and fun new challenge.”
David Sonenscher, chief operating officer of TCR UK, said, “Teamwork Huff Motorsport has the potential to be one of the strongest teams on the TCR UK grid this season. I know Teamwork from TCR Asia and TCR Malaysia, and Rob Huff needs no introduction to UK touring car fans.
“Sunny Wong has more than proved himself at the wheel of a TCR car, having regularly won races and playing a key role in securing the TCR China title for Teamwork last year. It’ll be interesting to see who ends up as his teammate in the second car.”
