Following Rally Portugal, Toyota has been testing its 2021 Rally1 mule on stages in the country and has released a short video detailing the tests.
According to team technical director Tom Fowler, the car is a near clean-sheet design compared with the current Yaris, an unusual situation given the generally evolutionary nature of rallying in recent years. The car had its initial shakedown in Finland before heading to Portugal. Fowler noted that the rest of its development process, in advance of its 2022 competition debut, will take place in Europe.
