Following an extensive evaluation of tire usage data carried out in conjunction with Michelin and Goodyear – the FIA World Endurance Championship’s exclusive tire suppliers – the FIA and ACO have decided to give tire warmers the green light for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
Tire warmers will be allowed for this race only and have been reintroduced to enhance safety for all competitors, regardless of the track conditions and temperature. The previous decision to ban the use of tire warmers was part of a long-term WEC roadmap.
The one-time reintroduction of the equipment is expected to provide teams with vital data that will enable them to better understand how to bring cold tires up to temperature for the remainder of the 2023 FIA WEC season.
All three FIA WEC classes will be allowed to use the equipment to make the race equal and competitive. To increase sustainability, the tire ovens will be powered with 100% sustainable fuel supplied by TotalEnergies.
