Bilstein and Black Falcon are celebrating a ten-year old technical partnership with the launch of a new livery on one of Black Falcon’s all-new AMG GT3 competition cars. The blue and yellow car will take part in theĀ ADAC Zurich 24-hour race, as well as other VLN races throughout the 2016 season.
Despite Bilstein’s livery appearing on several race cars throughout the years, this is the first time that it has appeared on either a Mercedes-Benz, or Black Falcon car. 2016 also sees the Black Falcon squad become an official AMG Performance Team, switching from the SLS AMG to the AMG GT3, and the debut of Bilstein’s new 4-way modular damping system (MDS) on a Black Falcon car.
Bilstein states that it was essential to minimise the outer diameter of the gas-pressure shock absorbers, since the improved airflow system on the AMG GT3Ā required more space. Nonetheless, the new 4-way system also needed to be more powerful than its 2-way predecessor. Larger spring rates and smaller suspension travel, in conjunction with the extremely effective aerodynamics of the 2016-spec car, result in up to 16,000 Newtons acting on each individual shock absorber in the compression stroke.
