Pirelli is extending its GT racing presence into mainland China by announcing a partnership with China GT during a press conference held at Beijing Goldenport Motor Park. Pirelli has confirmed its role of exclusive tyre supplier of China GT for three consecutive years and will bring to China the famous Pirelli P Zero slick tyres (DH and DHC), which are supplied to GT championships in Europe, North America and Asia. Pirelli motorsport engineers from the company’s head office will attend events during the entire season to support the teams and drivers.
In mainland China, Pirelli has built up a very experienced technical team and continued its strong performance in motorsport by establishing a clear market leadership both in circuit races and rallying. China GT represents the highest level of competition in China. Together with Pirelli, the series will gather a dynamic mix of professional drivers and amateur drivers in China, on some exciting circuits.
In terms of cars, the series will feature top GT brands, including Ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Nissan Nismo, among others.
“We are very excited to play an important role in China GT, which also has great significance for Pirelli in GT racing worldwide,” commented Ernesto Garcia Domingo, Pirelli Motorsport business director. “Following the GT successes already achieved in Europe, North America and Pacific, we have finally arrived here in China, where the automotive market is developing rapidly. We will fully leverage our extensive GT racing experience to assist China GT to grow into an even stronger championship in the near future, which also reflects Pirelli’s determination to develop motorsport in this key region.”
The first race of the China GT season will take place in Beijing in June, then travel to Shanghai, Chengdu and Zhuhai. The Pirelli P Zero DH and DHC slick tyres are well-suited to the diverse track conditions in China, which will ensure consistent performance over the whole season to further enhance the level of competition.
“With the encouraging results achieved so far in China, including podium finishes on the Chinese Rally Championship, the Pan Delta Racing Festival and an outstanding market share in one-make series including Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, BOSS GT and ASR, Pirelli is delighted to see the local motorsport federation’s commitment to and investment in GT racing,” added Rebecca Li, Pirelli motorsport marketing and PR APAC. “China GT has an impressive line-up of cars and drivers on the entry list, which is already a very good starting point. Pirelli will definitely be a strong boost to the development of GT racing in the region.”
