Xtrac Limited are exhibiting at the 2016 Professional MotorSport World Expo on stand 3010 with staff in attendance from its headquarters in Thatcham, Berkshire, UK, the main design and manufacturing facility for the company, which is supported by two further facilities in North America.
The key products on display are the P1046 Touring Car gearbox which is the approved transmission for the BTCC and extensively used in WTCC & CTCC, with a new ‘T’ derivative launched this year for use in TCR and already being used by customers in races. The latest GT rear transaxles; the P1529 ideally suited to mid-engine cars and the P529 for front engine cars are on display. From the 2017 season between them these are being used in over 15 different types of GT cars. Completing the display is the longitudinal P1152 transmission which is the ACO selected transmission for the rapidly growing and hugely successful LMP3 formula which competes in Europe & Asia, and from 2017 in the USA.
Xtrac’s growing specialist automotive sector is represented by the latest P1227 Integrated Lightweight Electric Vehicle (ILEV) Transmission which has been developed to address the growing market requirement for single speed, lightweight and power dense EV transmissions. The P1227 is highly configurable and suited for use with integrated electric motors supplied by Yasa, GKN or Borg Warner, with a specific focus on ensuring the ground helical gear sets adopted for this transmission are silent for the most demanding electric vehicle applications.
In addition to the gearboxes on display is a selection of Xtrac’s advanced high technology gearbox components manufactured from the latest bespoke ultra-high specification speciality steels with advanced heat treatment carried out in house to ensure Quality. The P1254 Integrated Valve Actuator (IVA) direct acting pneumatic gearchange system, which has been jointly developed by Xtrac and MEGA-Line and introduced in 2015, and which is being used with great success in GT, LMP2 and LMP3 is on display.
Xtrac’s Managing Director, Adrian Moore will be presenting in a workshop on “The Transmission as the Integrating Technology in Future Vehicles”, this presentation looks at the concept of using the transmission as the key integrating technology around which the other new technologies are applied, and also looks at some of the lessons from motorsport that can be directly applied to the mainstream automotive sector for future vehicles.
