Xtrac Inc. has announced the completion of its refurbished and extended Indianapolis facility. The site has nearly doubled in size to 12,000sqft, and has been expanded to provide a much larger gearbox build and re-build facility, additional R&D equipment and capability, and a larger warehouse to enable more stock to be carried – all with the aim of providing even better customer service.
“Xtrac are extremely proud of our association with the city of Indianapolis and the IndyCar series itself,” commented Adrian Moore, managing director Xtrac. “Indianapolis is a great location for our US headquarters, the future of IndyCar and other US racing is very positive.”
Xtrac first supplied transmissions for IndyCar teams in 1989 and have been the approved exclusive transmission supplier for the IndyCar series since the 2000 season. This long standing relationship, along with expansion in to many other US and South American based race series has allowed Xtrac to continue to invest in the staff and the facility year on year, with 16 full time professionally qualified staff now working at Xtrac Inc. in Indianapolis. Since 2012 all of the current era of IndyCar transmissions have been built in Indianapolis, which has also enabled Xtrac to develop a local supply chain for certain components used.
“This year’s Indy 500 winner will be our 24th win,” added Moore. “I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our Vice President, Andrew Heard for his role in setting up Xtrac Inc. back in 2003, and his leadership in making it the success it is today, he has a built a fantastic team who work with such great enthusiasm.”
Following the opening of the extended facility, guests were given a tour of the key new expanded build shop where all of the IndyCar transmissions are built, the expanded warehouse with extensive inventory to ensure that customers can get their spare parts exactly when they need them, and the brand new R&D facility.
As well as supporting IndyCar, Xtrac provides transmissions to other key race series in the Americas such as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship where Xtrac transmissions and differentials are used in the DPi, LMPC, LMP3, GTLM and GTD categories. Xtrac also have components being used in many other series including NASCAR, Pirelli World Challenge, SCCA, Off-Road and more.
The expanded facility allows for growth of the R&D capability to enable an ever higher level of technical support to Xtrac’s many customers, with specific product development activities now able to take place in the USA as well as at the UK headquarters. There is also additional space for storage for the Xtrac Inc. fleet of support vehicles and trailers which attend all IndyCar races, IMSA WeatherTech sportscar races as well as many others.
