For the soon to commence 2020 British Superbike season, Honda Racing UK will be running the all new Fireblade SP. As Havier Beltran, team manager at Honda Racing BSB explains, this will be the first purpose-built track machine the team has deployed in the championship, rather than a converted road bike.
The Fireblade 1000RR-R SP, to give it its full name, is something of a homologation special, a track-focused version of the 1000RR-R, which Honda hopes will keep it competitive in the ever-advancing superbike field.
Not only is the bike optimized from the factory for track use, it has a number of standout features, including sharing its engine architecture (in terms of bore and stroke) with Honda’s RC213V MotoGP machine.
Development of the bike was put on hold due to Covid-19, and this video charts the development work undertaken to transform Honda Racing BSB’s bike from track spec to full race trim.
