As the 2022 Formula 1 season draws near, Mercedes CTO James Allison explains in a new video series just how momentous the new regulation changes are, impacting every area of the cars.
The first instalment of the series looks at the gestation period of the new regulations and how, as a team, Mercedes balanced the day-to-day demands of development in 2021 with work on the new car.
“We approach a regulation set like this not from a view on whether they will work or their objectives, but to make the fastest car possible,” he noted, cautioning that while new rules bring plenty of opportunity to steal a march on the competition, there are many pitfalls as well.
