The award for UK Young Rally Driver of the Year went to Robert Wilson. The 16-year-old started out in the Junior 1000 championship and in 2019 took the overall Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship in his Peugeot 107.
Having grown up watching his father compete in rally events, motorsport was an inevitable passion for Rob Wilson. In his maiden campaign, aged just 14, he won his class five times, taking the title.
In 2018 he moved on to a more competitive car and a more experienced team, winning two overall events and achieving multiple podium finishes. That success has continued into this year, with four overall wins and numerous podiums. At the time of the awards, he had a healthy championship lead, which he successfully converted into a win.
“It’s been just an incredible year. I can’t believe it, really, and to get the extra £1000 prize is going to mean so much for next year. We’re hoping to step up into a more national championship.”
