The recently opened The Bend Motorsport Park was given the Motorsport Facility of the Year Award at the 2019 Professional MotorSport World Awards. Its versatility, character and high safety standards clinched the win for the state-of-the-art facility in South Australia.
Inspired by some of the world’s most iconic race circuits, The Bend is Australia’s only circuit that complies with the latest FIA Grade 2 and FIM Category A standards. The facility was developed and primarily funded by the Peregrine Corporation. Construction started in early 2016, with the main motor racing circuit completed in late 2018.
Four track layouts are joined by a drift, kart and rallycross circuit built specifically for these three disciplines, with additional ‘precincts’ planned for 2020. This versatility has already attracted the Australian Supercars Championship and the Asian Le Mans series to the facility.
At the awards ceremony, James Mraz, Deputy Agent General for South Australia, said that the team was ecstatic to be able to put their facility onto the international stage at PMW Expo. He added, “There’s a huge room, huge audience, huge exhibition here. For us to be able to present ourselves to a global audience is truly an amazing experience for us.”
